Blue Baby and Acute Coronary Revascularization
This book started with this simple question, “how did you do it?”. Niece to Uncle, surgeon to surgeon, Tracy asked this over the years and Ralph deflected with wonderful expert stories and advice for her surgical career. That day in October 2006 he opened up about his blue baby, Jason, and how he developed ACR while struggling to find a way, a surgical model, a surgical procedure for Jason.
Tracy was given permission to tell Ralph Berg’s hidden story, by her uncle with the caveat, “tell it in a positive way”. She interviewed over 44 individuals involved in this story, each one a piece of the larger puzzle. The book has twenty-two chapters, and tells the story from Ralph’s grandfather, to his father, to Ralph Berg and his surgical mastery. Then to his son Jason and the entwined stories of ACR and Jason’s complex transposition of the great vessels repair.
When Ralph Berg passed in 2017, Tracy stepped out of her private general surgery practice to an employed surgeon role to allow her more time with developing the book, publishers and she is proud and relieved it is publishing December 2024.
